Excerpt from, "Looks are Deceiving"

Elissa watched his suspicious green eyes roam the cocoa-and-white living room appreciatively. “Greg’s got some pad here.”

His vision fixed on the cases of wine stacked beside the airport-lights sound system and flat-screen TV embedded into the wall. One would’ve thought the electronics would draw a thief’s eye.

This one pointed the gun at the cases of wine, then back to her. “That’s what I’m looking for.”

"You’re holding me at gunpoint for wine? Some alcohol problem you have.”

The man cast her an angry snarl. “Shut up. Don’t be a problem, and you won’t get hurt.”

“I can do that,” she replied, keeping her hands in his sight as not to illicit a bullet. No reason to earn a gunshot wound. She was about to take his gun away, anyway.

Over the man’s shoulder, Elissa spotted the front door easing open, and she saw Greg stick his head in. He eyed the man, then slid back noiselessly behind the door. His sudden appearance changed everything.

Now Elissa wasn’t sure how to keep everyone from injury.

The stranger ordered her, “You’re going to pick up those cases and put them in the trunk of my car.”

Elissa shook her head, gambling, now hoping to exclude his gun from the action entirely, avoiding any physical struggle altogether. He’d need to put down the gun to pick up the wine. “I can’t lift them. I tried earlier.”

Her assailant gave her a nasty grimace. “What do you mean you can’t lift them? They can’t be over thirty pounds.”

She shrugged her shoulders, taking in his posture, sizing up his every move, an eye out for some advantage she could exploit or an unexpected aggressive motion. “I have a bad back. I’m bound to drop a case and shatter the bottles.”

Clearly frustrated, the man tucked the gun into his holster on his belt, exactly what she needed him to do. Then he grabbed hold of her upper arm and hauled her over to the window where he ripped the pull cord from the glass door’s mini-blinds. In his rough handling, she spotted Greg skulking through the front door to duck behind the island of the kitchen.

The wine thief shoved her to the floor at the metal-and-glass coffee table, and he wrapped the cord around her wrists without a fight from her. She focused on keeping her assailant’s attention on her so he wouldn’t pick up the small sounds of Greg passing over the tiled kitchen floor.

“You know, you can get help for the alcohol problem,” she said, watching over the gunman’s shoulder as Greg surfaced on the other side of the island and slipped into a door beyond.

“I know a few places you could get help. You just really have to commit to it—”

“Shut up.”

"Got ya, shutting up.”

Having tied her rather insecurely to the table, the armed man then grabbed hold of two of the stacked cases, one atop the other, and he hauled the cases outside. Wordless, she watched Greg slip from the bedroom, a Glock-22 semi-auto in his hand, and he sneaked back into the kitchen to press himself against the refrigerator, shielded by an entranceway wall.

Elissa took a deep breath and thought up a quick prayer. Why would someone, an armed someone, show up at a home to steal three cases of wine, passing up the nicest home theater system she’d ever seen?

When the man stepped back into the house for the third case, he passed the wall Greg hid behind. In one smooth motion, Greg stepped into the hall and pressed the muzzle to the back of the man’s head.

"Don’t move,” Greg told him, stopping the man cold, and the look of surprise on the gunman’s face was profound. “And I won’t shoot you. Move a muscle, and your brains are going to be my new decorating scheme.”

The SPOTLIGHT is on Michele Hart!

A latch-key kid raised in Brandon, Florida, Michele found the world outside her house boring so she lived inside shows about futuristic worlds, fantastic places. Star Trek, Bewitched, Night Stalker. Battlestar Galactica, I Dream of Jeannie, Logan’s Run. Naturally, she found her future in alternate realities! She’s keeping it UNreal.

Transylvanian blood explains her pallor and fangs, the huddling in shadows, that evil snicker! Must be a horror story lurking somewhere in her.

When writing a law enforcement character, she gets her concealed weapons permit. When she writes swashbucklers, she takes sword-fighting classes. She’s ready for an interstellar space trip, NASA!

Michele’s written Sci-Fi Romance, Erotic Romantic Suspense, and Romantic Comedy in lengths from a 4,000-word short story to a 9-book series. Yeah, she needs a life!

At this very moment, she’s at her computer writing a new story, doing promotions, fixing that “dumb” computer, or sticking her head in a science book, sweating bullets as she labors to understand physics, cosmology, and quantum mechanics. The girl has only so much brain RAM to work with!

Michele’s favorite writers are Katie Macalister, Jennifer Estep, and Alisha Paige. Her favorite living thing is a cute and fluffy Malti-Poo named Rocket.

Greg’s family secrets are threatening his security. Will Elissa help him discover the family secrets? This is a breezy read. I could not wait to get home to see what happened next. Scoring a blind date was the last thing on Elissa Baker’s mind when she goes grocery shopping looking like a bedraggled puppy. Delighted at her less-than-satisfactory appearance, three guys offer her money to have dinner with their friend. The mystery man turns out to be handsome restaurateur Greg Moretti who is knee-deep in solving troubles at his family restaurant. But one whiff of Elissa’s butterscotch toffee body spray and Greg’s heart is a goner. She is just as taken with the enigmatic man but what will she choose if she has to pick between love and her lifelong dream? Elissa’s personality is a mystery, especially to Greg. She is presented as a fun loving, normal woman but there is a lot going on inside that intrigues and mystifies. She is a whole package and I loved every bit that I discovered but couldn’t understand her reluctance to show her dreams. Greg is a fine man. He knows his responsibilities and can become a wonderful support system for anyone when the need arises. Their coming together was all part of an interesting bet to get back on the childish prank his friends played, but I wasn’t prepared for all the simmering heat that their union generated. Elissa and Greg uncover each other’s potential during the whole course of their budding relationship and the intensity is evident in the sex scenes. The lovemaking scenes will delight readers who want their zings mixed in perfectly with the ongoing storyline. The secondary characters are mostly integral parts of Greg’s past and I loved the banter and camaraderie between them. All the female characters have a great deal of strength and spunk and I liked knowing them. A few sub-plots join in the main one but it is a relief that it doesn’t get tangled up. The mystery was decent and I was really looking forward to meeting the villain. Ms. Hart managed to grab my interest with a clever opening and held my interest till the end. All in all, Looks Are Deceiving is a fast-paced, adventure filled story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Nicely Done!

Excerpt from, "Old Dreams"

Excerpt #1

Arlene was deep in dream land, reliving that afternoons walk with Brian. He gave her that sexy smile she already adored as he pointed something out to her, then leaned over and pushed one of her curls behind her ear. Oddly enough the curl was back and a good half a foot longer. Brian reached up to push it back again and Arlene realized the setting was completely different. They were no longer on a sidewalk looking into a store window.

Brian was wearing some type of weird dress robe, while Arlene was covered from her breasts, down to the floor in a cotton candy pink gown. There was a lot of people in the back ground, but Arlene didn't pay the least bit of attention to any of them. She had eyes only for Brian.

There were long rectangular tables covered in blue floral clothes, food and flowers. Soft music like nothing she had ever heard played in the background, but everything faded away next to Brian.

After carefully moving the absentminded curl, Brian leaned forward and touched his lips to hers. A chill ran down her spine and a pit of fire roared to life in the bottom of her stomach. Her knees grew weak as he pulled her closer, wrapping his arms firmly around her until their bodies touched from their chests down to their knees.

His lips continued to brush tantalizingly over hers as he spoke. "I'm so glad you chose to stay with me. I love you Colleen."

Arlene pulled back sharply, placing a hand firmly on his chest as she looked up at him in confusion. "I'm Arlene, remember? Whose Colleen, Brian?"

She grabbed his arm and softly shook him. "Whose Colleen?"

Brian pulled her back into his arms with a sweet smile and whispered, "My wife."

Excerpt #2

The next morning, Arlene had an early class, so Brian didn't have to work to avoid her. Arlene filled an empty plastic twenty ounce bottle with orange Kool-Aid and Brian offered to grab her bag for her. On his way back across the room Brian tripped over one of Josh's boots and dropped a couple of Arlene's books. Together they slowly picked them up and Brian went ahead and took the plunge.

"Look… If I'm distant, it doesn't mean I'm avoiding you. I just need some time to figure out what is going on inside me. It could take a while, so please don't take it personally."

Arlene pushed her science book in her bag and mumbled, "No problem."

Grabbing the book in his hand, she shoved it out of sight and started for the door. Brian catching sight of an escaped piece of paper told her to wait, while he retrieved it from under the corner of the couch. Brian picked it up and started to pass it over when his eyes landed on the previous day's sketch.

"What is this?"Arlene shrugged, "Nothing really, just something I doodled in math class yesterday."

"I had no idea you were an artist. This is really pretty."Arlene laughed, "I'm no artist, believe me, it's nothing. It's just a doodle that will end up in the trash."

Trying not to show to much interest and spook her, he asked in an offhanded way.

"Well if that is really how you feel, you don't mind if I keep it?"

A surprised look crossed her face, but she just shrugged. "Sure," and with a small wave, "Catch you later."

Then she was out the door. As soon as the door shut behind her, Brian swung around and shook Josh violently awake. "Get up, I want to be out of here in five minutes. There has been a new development."

Eyes still half closed, shoes tied and yawning grumpily Josh was waiting at the door when Brian wrenched it open.

"What's up, Brian?"Not stopping Brian mumbled, "I'll explain when we get to Ginger's.Behind him Josh turned a snort into a laugh.

"Ginger's at this time of day, man you really got some nerve."

Brian understood Josh's meaning after pounding on Ginger's apartment door and getting the reply, "Who the hell is beating down my door at the crack of dawn? This had better be good or someone is going to wish they were never born."

The door opened and Ginger's angry face instantly turned to a look of concern.

"What's wrong Pop?"Closing the door behind them Brian walked over and dropped the sketch on Ginger's honey colored coffee table.

"I found this in Arlene's school stuff this morning."

Josh and Ginger leaned in together, both giving back a simple, "OH!"

Sam who was just opening his eyes on the couch next to the table leaned over blinking.Brian saw Ginger's glance run over Sam as he sat up, long naked torso running down to meet his blue running shorts as Sam asked, "It looks like a math paper. So what's the big deal?"

Brian leaned over and pointed at the sketch that he had easily recognized.

"Not the math, this so-called doodle."Sam squinted down and shrugged, "Big deal, she drew a ring."Brian shook his head. "This isn't just any ring. This is Colleen's wedding ring."

Sam snorted, "Yeah right, you gave her that ring over five hundred years ago. How could you recognize one ring from another?"Ginger grinned as Brian answered, "I know that ring better than the back of my own hand."

Sam lifted an eyebrow as Brian reached into the neckline of his t-shirt and pulled out the soft silver necklace around his throat. Placing the end into the palm of his hand he held it out to show Sam. A man's black and gold wedding band covered in Celtic knots rested snuggly against an exact copy of Arlene's sketch.

"I had our rings cryogenically frozen with me. They are made of indestructible metal from the planet Calidar so they will last forever."

Sam gave him his, 'I'm impressed' look and said, "Wow, that is cool. Then this is supposed to be important?"

The other three groaned, then Brian held up the sketch next to the ring as Ginger vanished for a moment. The sketch was so perfect that it truly astonished Brian. The ring had been made with line long wires that were intricately twirled together to make a piece of art representing the moons of Adrivar.

Each little turn of the ring was drawn exactly right in Arlene's doodle.

Excerpt from, "In Sunshine or in Shadow"

Rory's words echoed in her brain, sending prickles of alarm through her. "Do you know who did this, Rory?" she asked quietly, fighting to keep the tremor from her voice.

He didn't flinch from her probing gaze. "I think it was Frank and Joe Kerrigan."

The Kerrigan brothers again!

Chilled to the very marrow of her bones, she rubbed her hands over her arms in a futile attempt to warm herself. It seemed her destiny was forever tied to the brothers who'd destroyed her life so many years ago. Would the past never leave her alone?

"Was it because of me?" she asked, her voice no more than an aching whisper.

He heard, though. Abruptly he turned to her and gathered her into his arms. He felt warm and solid and safe. "No, my love, it wasn't you. It was because of me. I dismissed the Kerrigans on Tom's advice. The night he and Nora married, Eileen O'Farrell lost her crop to a fire. Now Tom and Nora's cottage goes up in flames. It's no secret in the village how Charlotte died. Wouldn't Frank and Joe Kerrigan think this a fine way to punish me?"

She heard the pain in his voice and gazed up into his face, raw with anguish. She reached tentative fingers to caress the lines around his mouth and eyes, smoothing away the soot and perspiration he'd accumulated while fighting the fire.

"It wasn't your fault," she whispered, her throat aching with tenderness. She knew this was another burden her wounded love would take upon his shoulders. "Rory, it wasn't! Sure, Frank and Joe Kerrigan were causing trouble in Ballycashel long before you came. Why, look what happened with Michael and Sean!"

"It's different this time," he insisted, and she felt his body shudder against hers. "They're cowards, Siobhán. They won't go after me directly. Instead they will attack me through my people. Who will be next? Old Liam Brady as he's coming home from Donahue's pub? Paddy Devlin as he comes back from courting his girl in Clifden? You?"

A great sense of weariness swept over her. "They've already taken my husband and brother. What more can they do to me?"

"They can take you away from me."

His quiet intensity sent a jolt of molten desire through her. What did those words mean? She'd never belonged to him--not really. Did he truly value her that much? Or was she just another one of his tenants?

"I cannot lose you, Siobhán. Not now, when I have only just found you. I've been a bloody damned fool, thinking if I sent you away, you'd be safe. You will never be safe with me--no one ever has been. But I cannot bear to let you go!"

"I don't want you to!" she whispered vehemently. "I love you, Rory O'Brien, and love is worth any risk in the world." Raising up on tiptoe, she pressed her lips to his in a kiss that bespoke forgiveness, healing and passion.

He broke the kiss and glanced down at her, something like wonder in his eyes. With great tenderness, he skimmed his fingers down her cheek, sending little shivers through her. But his eyes were filled with torment. "I do not know if I can do this, Siobhán."

"Do what, my love?"

"This! Any of this!" He gestured to the small thatched cottages, the fields of potatoes and corn, then to Ballycashel House. "I don't know if I can be lord of Ballycashel. I cannot keep the crops safe, I cannot keep the tenants safe. I just don't know if I can do it all. I don't know if I can be everything to everyone!"

Siobhán touched his face tenderly. "You don't have to," she told him softly. "You don't have to be anything but what you are. You're such a good man, Rory O'Brien, responsible and caring. You've brought Ballycashel back to life. Sure, you're the best landlord this village has ever known, and we're lucky to have you."

"I'm the lucky one," he countered, his hands moving in warm, gentle circles over her back. "For in coming back to Ballycashel, at long last I think I've finally come home."

She pulled him close, so close she could feel the mingled beating of their hearts. "Then come," she whispered against his cheek. "Come all the way home, my love."

He watched her for a long, intense moment, and she could feel the awareness pulsing between them. Then, as if he'd found what he sought in her eyes, he released her, drew off the cloak that fluttered about him like a storm cloud, and tossed it to the ground. He knelt upon it, then turned to her and held out his hand.

"Come home with me, Siobhán."

The SPOTLIGHT is on, Cynthia Owens!

I believe I was destined to be interested in history. One of my distant ancestors, Thomas Aubert, reportedly sailed up the St. Lawrence River to discover Canada some 26 years before Jacques Cartier’s 1534 voyage. Another relative was a 17th Century “King’s Girl,” one of a group of young unmarried girls sent to New France as brides for the settlers there.

My passion for reading made me long to write books like the ones I enjoyed, and I tried creating sequels to my favorite Nancy Drew mysteries. Later, fancying myself a female version of Andrew Lloyd Weber, I drafted a musical set in Paris in WWII.

A former journalist and lifelong Celtophile, I enjoyed a previous career as a reporter/editor for a small chain of community newspapers before returning to my first love, romantic fiction. My stories usually include an Irish setting, hero or heroine, and sometimes all three. My first novel, In Sunshine or in Shadow, is set in post-Famine Ireland and is still available from Highland Press. The sequel, Coming Home, is currently in production. Release date TBA.

I am a member of the Romance Writers of America, Hearts Through History Romance Writers, Celtic Hearts Romance Writers, and the Canadian Romance Authors network. I am a lifelong resident of Deux Montagnes, where I still live with my own Celtic hero and my two school-aged children.

Praise for 'In Sunshine or in Shadow'

“If you adore the stormy heroes of "Wuthering Heights" and "Jane Eyre" (and who doesn't?) you'll be entranced by Cynthia Owens' passionate story of Ireland after the Great Famine... Highly recommended for those who love classic romance and an action-packed story.”
~Maggie Davis, AKA Katherine Deauxville

“Many heartfelt sighs were wrenched from me as Burke and Siobhan’s story unfurled. Author Owens pens in loving detail all that is dear to not only this couple, but the town itself as well. Their coming together is a catalyst that unwinds quickly and aids in relieving not only their minds, but the rest of the townsfolk too. The town, with all its residents, was at times like one character in itself, one that comes together to support Burke when he needs it most. But alas, his true salvation laid in Siobhan and their ability to find love once more. This was a truly enchanting tale of love lost and gained, revenge and a town saved. Bravo, Ms. Owens, for a wonderful read!”
~Kenda Montgomery, Author

“In Sunshine or in Shadow is a classic Irish romance at its very best.”
~TCM Reviews

“Catch this beautiful tale from Cynthia Owens.”
~Mark, Book Cove Reviews

“In Sunshine or in Shadow is the perfect book to curl up with on a drizzling day.”
~Night Owl Romance

“In Sunshine Or In Shadow is breathtakingly beautiful. I could lose myself in the pages of this novel happily for hours. Not only does Ms. Owens expertly craft a historical setting but she draws her reader ever deeper into the personal ghosts her characters struggle with. Her characters are haunting and will remain with readers long after the last page. There is no doubt in my mind readers will add this novel to their keeper shelf to return to again and again.”

Excerpt from, "Bonded by Need."

Without care for her safety, Jayda plunged into the icy waters. The sandy bottom melted away and she was left suspended in the frigid waters. Kicking with her back feet and paddling with her front paws, Jayda tried to stay afloat. But swimming as a wolf proved to be more difficult than she’d imagined. The current that appeared sluggish and without strength, now surged, grabbing and pulling her into its icy depths, covering her nose and eyes, filling her mouth. She swallowed great gulps of water before popping up briefly and being sucked under again.

Stupid. Jayda struggled to turn and find the shore, but the rush of the river disoriented her. The water pummeled her, twisting her in all directions until she no longer knew which direction to find land.

Her wolf legs paddled at a feverish pace. Jayda tried to shift, thinking she could fight the rush of water in human form, but her body wouldn’t respond. Her heart pounded against her ribs, lungs burning without air. Exhaustion quivered over her muscles. As the river pulled her under again, giving in to the strength of the current seemed like such an easy decision. Through the silvery film of the surface Jayda saw the rippling wink of the moon, the only witness to her demise.

No. This night would not end with her death.

With one last Herculean effort of kicking, her head broke the surface, and Jayda yelped, her mouth filling with more water and choking her. She managed another strangled cry. Could he hear her?

Her body slammed into a rock and pain seared through her ribs. Jayda had no idea how long she could continue to fight. Rolling away from the boulder, her body twisted and turned in the current, pulling her into its depths again.

When a muzzle came up under her belly, she knew immediately he had found her. He pushed at her body, and when Jayda’s head broke the surface, she gulped in the sweet night air, filling her lungs, waiting for the water to envelope her once again. But it didn’t. Her feet paddled furiously and she tried desperately not to kick him. But her limbs seemed to have a mind of their own. Her back claws raked his skull and Jayda prayed she wouldn’t drown them both.

The large wolf abandoned that idea and came up beside her. His muscular body pressed to hers, lifting her from the moving water. His powerful shoulder muscles bunched as he swam, redirecting her flailing body toward the shore. Briefly, Jayda slipped below the surface. His muzzle came up under hers, lifting her nose from the water. She churned her paws at twice the speed of his more effective pulls. Her breath whistled with her efforts.

When her paws bumped a rock, Jayda wanted to weep with relief. The marshy grass of the shore swayed placidly in the gentle breeze. It had never looked sweeter. Not until all four feet found purchase on the sandy bottom did the wolf beside her relax. She dragged herself to the grass and lay whimpering. The soft fronds cushioned her belly and Jayda took a moment to enjoy the sturdy feel of the earth beneath her.

Her lungs screamed in agony as Jayda worked to fill them. Relaxing, she willed her body to shift. Muscles rippled and bones warped. Her wolf gave way to her human form. Fur receded, leaving the damp satin of her skin. As her muzzle shortened and she became fully human, she rolled on her back, trying to find him.

The wolf strode over to her, fury sparking in his narrowed eyes. Anger rippled over his lips curled back in a snarl. Moonlight flashed off hungry fangs just above her face. Though his breathing was labored, his chest heaving with the effort, he managed a low growl that rumbled through Jayda’s heart. Fear and relief warred inside her, rendering her unable to apologize.

With ease borne of years of shifting, the wolf before her rippled and shuddered until it too became human. The man towered over her, his fists planted firmly on his narrow hips. The wild mane of dark hair framed the scowl on his face and stuck to his wide shoulders. She couldn’t stop her eyes from traveling down his furred chest and lower still over his flat belly to his sex. A primal need pulled at her womb. Even angry, this man, her lover, was a powerful aphrodisiac.

The SPOTLIGHT is on, Nina Pierce!

Nina grew up in a house of readers. So falling in love with books was only natural. In her early teens she discovered love stories. Her favorite all time book The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough, was her introduction to romance and lust. The forbidden love between Meggie Cleary and the priest she couldn't have, Ralph de Bricassart, will forever be blazed in her memory. And when Richard Chamberlain played the lead in a made for television mini-series … well, that sealed it as her all time favorite love story.
Of course since then, she's branched out to reading all kinds of genres from science fiction to mystery, medical thrillers to historicals and she has too many favorite authors to list. But through it all romance has remained her favorite genre. Now, reading about lovers isn't enough for her (though she still devours books). The characters of her imagination (and sexual fantasies) beg to have their stories told. She finally put fingers to keyboard... and a new career was launched. A native of Maine, Nina resides in what she affectionately calls "the great white North" in potato country with her high school sweetheart and true love of twenty-five years, their three grown children and a menagerie of pets.

TS Peters of JERR gave Bonded by Need 4.5 stars and had this to say ...
"Wow! Is there ever a whole lot going on in between these pages. [...] This one kept me on the edge of my seat as I waited to see what would happen next. It was refreshing seeing Jayda come into her own as an alpha shifter. If you want a book that will keep your heart racing, you will enjoy Bonded by Need."

Leader of the cougar council, Zane Brodan has no desire to get involved in a romantic relationship. Tangling with a shifter already promised to another is a bad idea—except when it’s a luscious polymorphic shifter doing the tempting.

Cole believes Jayda is his lifemate. Zane can’t resist her seductions. Someone wants to ruin all their plans. As the temperature and the body count rise so does Jayda’s need to possess both men—wolf and cougar—and her needs refuse to be denied.

Excerpt from, "Marek's New World"

“Don’t move!” Cheyenne pointed her shotgun at the blood-smeared stranger as he stood and turned away from the prone body. Sister growled at the stench of the yellow-green goo that splattered the ground and the men. Cheyenne feared she’d come upon a murderer, but the raw agony in the living man’s eyes belied that. “What’s your name? What happened here?”

He frowned. Puzzlement clouded his gaze. She repeated her questions in every Native language she knew. Frustrated, her repertoire exhausted, she fell silent and studied him.
Clad only in moccasins and intricately tooled leather breeches that buttered his muscular thighs, he stood tall and straight before her, covered in human blood and bits of that weird sulfur-smelling goo. Long raven hair tied back with a leather thong revealed a proud, almost raptorial visage, with piercing black eyes and a strong jaw. Native cast, but with an aristocratic edge that set him apart.

Used to fit men from the braw males of her own Pack, she still couldn’t repress a feminine shiver. This was without a doubt the most ripped man she’d ever seen. She wondered if he was some kind of soldier, doubtful with that hair.

Leave it to her to find a romance-cover-model-turned-ax-murderer in the middle of nowhere.

Sister insisted the man was blameless. Involved in the tragedy, but not responsible. Even though the self-recrimination in the man’s eyes stated he thought otherwise. No Pack member had ever been murdered in cold blood. They could read a person’s intentions and steer clear. Accidents, illness and old age, yes – but never murder.

Cheyenne decided to trust her instincts. “Who are you?” When he didn’t respond, she tapped her chest. “Chey-enne.”

Comprehension lit his gaze, and he pointed to himself. “Mar-ek.” He then indicated the body of the man on the ground. “Vey-nar.” His voice choked as he pulled off the dead man’s amulet and placed it around his own neck.

“Marek.” Relieved he spoke; Cheyenne lowered her gun until the barrel pointed toward the ground. Her eyes widened; his skin reddened where the goo clung. Some kind of acid? That had to hurt, although he appeared not to notice. There was a stream where he could wash, but how to convey to someone who spoke a different language?

She held out a hand, palm up. “Come.” She pantomimed as she backed away, motioning him to follow. He nodded once. She forced herself not to react when he picked up his strange weapons and took a step toward her, cradling the lethal-looking crystal blades like an armload of firewood.

Understanding dawned in Marek’s eyes when the sound of rushing water reached their ears. He glanced at her; with a forward sweeping motion, she indicated he should go ahead of her. He waded into the icy stream and began to wash away the filth from himself and the blades.

Cheyenne flinched. Those burns looked nasty. She took off her backpack, opened it, pulled out her first-aid kit and a survival blanket. She grabbed a tube of ointment that relieved pain and prevented infection.

Marek watched her approach with wariness in his eyes. She applied some of the ointment on her fingertips and rubbed it into her inner wrist, holding it out so he could see it wasn’t harming her. Eye-level with the worst of the burns, she put more on her fingers and reached for his chest. He caught her wrist, stopping her, and frowned.

Dormant femininity uncurled. Cheyenne quivered as his long, calloused fingers caressed her skin. She hoped he wouldn’t notice. “Shh, it’s okay. Trust me, this will help.”

He didn’t release his grip, but allowed her touch. He watched her apply the medicine, and she knew the moment his pain eased by the way he jerked and then relaxed. He released her hand and let her tend to the other wounds.

His three pendants drew her gaze. They looked like huge diamonds but couldn’t be real. Sister growled.

Cheyenne didn’t recognize the symbols etched into the settings, but she steered clear of the silver metal.

That cliché was all too real for Pack.

Blurb sounded good, so I bought it book is even better than I hoped! Classic good vs evil, but very well done, well written, great characters (likable & neither perfect nor too stupid to live), interesting plot with plenty of twists and turns. Warning: given the whole light vs dark nature of the plot, the dark bits are quite dark--gives the book some of it's strength, but can be hard to read... Pretty much devoured it, and now waiting impatiently for the next in the series.

Karen rubbed her patient’s head and removed her surgical gloves. Surgery had gone well and the freshly neutered dog was doing fine. Fia approached her as soon as she stepped into the hallway.

“Boss, there’s this gorgeous guy here to see you. He says he’s a vet, too. He was asking Auriel if he could look around the clinic.”

“Look around? Damn it, Ron must have sent him.” She stepped into another room, removed her scrubs, and washed her hands. “Where is he? Waiting room?”

“Yep. I must say all the female clients are enjoying the view.”

Karen frowned, genuinely puzzled. “What are you talking about?”

“The view! You know--good looking man--enjoying the view? Even the pets stopped whatever they were doing and looked at this guy when he walked in.”

Karen shook her head. “Well, view or no view, he’d better not be one of Ron’s minions coming in here to piss me off or he’s gonna get cussed out today.”

“And that would make today different how?”

Karen gave Fia a no you didn’t look. “I don’t cuss every day.”

Fia laughed. “Ahem. Okay. You’re the boss, but I’ve never met another woman who can cry real tears over a dog or cat getting hurt or lost and turn around a minute later and cuss every human around her like a sailor. I’m just sayin’.”

Karen rolled her eyes and started walking back to the waiting area. “Where’s my guest?”

“Dr. Adler?” Fia called Raven to the front counter to meet Karen.

Karen stared as a tall man with wide shoulders and wavy black hair approached the counter. She knew her lips were parted, but couldn’t seem to force her jaw closed as she watched him in awe.

He moved with the grace of a predator--slow, sensual movements as if his muscles rolled when he walked.

“Hi doctor.”

A few moments passed before Karen realized Dr. Adler still held his hand out for her to shake.

All suspicions about him working for Ron flew from her mind as her lower abdomen lit up like a furnace and her lower limbs melted from the heat.

“Oh, hi doctor. You are from?” She tried to cover, something she seldom had to do. She was not a woman who spent much time thinking about men, let alone falling all over one. She was not accustomed to having to control her reactions.

“I’m from Washington State. I do apologize for keeping you from your patients, but I only…”

Karen found herself staring again, his words dropping to a low hum. His eyes were like water--liquid pools of baby blue in an olive-colored complexion framed by the blackest hair she had ever seen on a white man. He had high cheekbones, full lips, a straight nose, and as he spoke, she could see just a hint of pearl-white pointed incisors. The imperfection made his features perfect.

“Doctor Marshall? Are you all right?”

Karen noticed as the baby blue pools narrowed, his entire expression becoming one of concern.
She blinked slowly, realizing he was awaiting a reply from her. She covered again. “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t get much sleep last night. You were saying?”

“If I could bother you for just a few minutes longer in private.” He smiled.

Bother? His smile gave her an even better view of his imperfect yet perfect white teeth, and she felt as if a light switch had been turned on causing the fire inside her to flare. “Oh, no bother.” She looked around the waiting room. “Five minutes?”

That smile again. “Five minutes.”

Excerpt from, "Logan's Redemption"

Doriana turned off the TV and dropped the remote on
the bed. Thinking about Logan teased her with questions.
Why was Logan at the fire site with her dad? That story
about his having fire experience didn’t ring true. What
were Logan and her father hiding?

Thankfully, the workweek had been short with the
two-day holiday. She needed time away from Logan and
all the longings, confusion and guilt he stirred in her.
She trusted Anita to keep her secret. Would her own
guilt force the truth? Logan hadn’t cared enough to stay
around the first time. Would knowing about Josh keep
him here now?

Doriana got up from the bed and ran
impatient fingers through her hair. She was obsessing
way too much about Logan. She walked toward the bathroom, pulling her
sweater over her head. Too bad she couldn’t peel away her
problems as smoothly. The ring of the phone stopped her.
Slipping her sweater back on, she hurried to answer it.
Josh calling to say goodnight? She doubted it.

“Hello,” she said into the receiver.

“Hello, sexy.” At the crude, unfamiliar voice, she
tightened her grip on the phone. Chills chased up her
spine.

“Who is this?” Her voice shook.

“Oh, you don’t know me. Not yet. But I sure know
you. You’re sexy as hell, especially in those tight black

pants.”

Doriana slammed down the phone. Her insides
quivered and she ran trembling hands along the sides of
her black pants. Had her caller guessed at what she wore?
Or was he watching? She gulped air.

The phone rang again and she let out a small cry.
She balled her hands, digging her nails into her palms.
She would not pick up the phone. The answering machine
clicked on.

“You can’t get away from me that easy.” The harsh
voice, laced with menace, froze her. “I know you’re alone.”
Almost seeing his leer, she shoved a shaking fist to her
mouth.

“Let me in, bitch. I’ll show a hot number like you
what a real man is. Not like that pretty boy you’ve been
hanging around with.”

FALLEN ANGEL REVIEWS- 4 ANGELS

Doriana Callahan, the Vice President of Project Development is in a pickle. Her father, Dan Callahan, CEO of Callahan Construction has hired a man from her past to work with her. Even though it will only be temporary, Doriana doesn’t need this person back in her life. At least she keeps telling herself that. Years ago when she was only seventeen, scared and humiliated, she had loved one man. The man who was the father of her baby, but he left without a word. Now that he has returned, she tries to hide the fact that her teenage son, Josh is Logan’s son. To make matters worse, someone is vandalizing her father’s company and she is certain following her. Josh doesn’t help matters. The defiant son seriously needs an attitude adjustment. The return of Logan Turner only piles more stress upon her. She never forgot him. Logan felt he never fit in Doriana’s world. He wanted to be a part of her life until something happened, and he had to leave. Now that he is back, those warm feelings of years ago return. He informs her he can stay as long as necessary with the job. More importantly he needs the job, and since her father trust him, Logan insist they make the best of things. He has to find a way for her to forgive him. He is stunned that Doriana kept the news that her teenage son is his but wants to get to know Josh and be a father to him. After hearing the danger that Doriana faces, Logan eagerly jumps in to offer her protection. He will do what he can to safeguard her and Josh while trying to stop the person that threatens her and regain what they had years ago. Logan’s Redemption has all the elements that keep the pages turning: passion, romance, thrills and suspense. I love the tight-knit conversation, not only with Doriana and Logan, but when she speaks with her father concerning matters. Cara Marsi captures the essence of each character and brings them to life. I loved how brave Logan was when it came to protecting Doriana. The deep emotions he feels toward Doriana and Josh is remarkable. I was immediately hooked once I started this page-turner. Each time I wanted to stop to go do something else, I said, no, not yet. This storyline is so fantastic The intensity of the players practically leaps out at the reader. This is my first book by Ms. Marsi and most assuredly won’t be my last.

JOYFULLY REVIEWED

Doriana Callahan is having a rough time. She is being stalked. Her son is rebelling and being secretive. Someone is sabotaging her father’s company and stealing bids. Then, on top of that, Logan Tanner has been hired by her father to be her new personal assistant. Years ago Logan and Dori were inseparable and when he left without a word, he broke Dori’s heart. Now, it seems that he is back in town and suddenly Dori has a sixteen-year-old dilemma on her hands whose name happens to be Josh. Logan Tanner regrets leaving Dori so long ago. Sixteen years prior he did something so awful that he had to run, and run he did – away from Dori and away from the son he never knew existed. Hired by Dori’s father, Logan must find the person responsible for single-handedly trying to ruin the family business. When he accomplishes what he has been hired to do, where will he go from there? Hopefully, straight into Dori’s arms forever. Logan’s Redemption grabbed me with the blurb. I adore stories of lost lovers reuniting again years later. I just knew that Logan and Dori would be together and loved reading how their relationship had to grow and each character had to come to grips with their respective pasts. Logan had a bit more baggage than Dori and his forgiving of himself was hard for him to do. Dori’s guilt was in not telling Logan immediately about the stork visiting her almost sixteen years ago. I couldn’t blame Logan for his anger but the storyline was written well enough that I know why Dori made the decisions she made.
I really liked the plot and premise of Logan’s Redemption. As a reviewer, only one thing really stood out in my mind and bothered me. It is minor but I feel it must be mentioned. It seems as if I was left hanging when Josh ran into trouble. Nothing was mentioned about his recovery, etc. At the end of the book, I was left not knowing his prognosis or what happened with that part of the storyline. All in all, I enjoyed Logan’s Redemption very much and would automatically read another novel by Cara Marsi.

MY ROMANCE STORY
Doriana Callahan's life revolves entirely around her teenage son and her career as a vice president at her father's company. Her life of wealth and success is overshadowed by loneliness and the many wounds inflicted by Logan Tanner, who left while she was pregnant with their son. That would have been the end of their story if her father hadn't hired Logan as a temp while her assistant was out on maternity leave. What she doesn't know is that he is now a corporate investigator working undercover to find out who is sabotaging the company. What he doesn't know is that Doriana's son is his. Keeping their relationship professional becomes all the more difficult as Logan finds himself playing Doriana's protector against a stalker. Through their interaction, and as a tangled web of secrets slowly unravels, a road to healing old wounds is sought. Marsi has a talent for handling a complicated plot. When many levels of secrets enter into a story, some writers have their characters behave well outside their normal intelligence just to make everything work. As a result the plot loses plausibility and feels contrived. This is not the case with Logan's Redemption. Marsi does an excellent job of unraveling secrets and bringing about healing without contrivance. On top of the emotional story, she adds a strong dose of sexual tension that keeps the suspense and desire high with each turn of the page. Logan's Redemption should definitely be added to your must-read list.

Logan Tanner is a security specialist and has been hired by Dan Callahan to discover who is leaking vital corporate information to his competitors. It’s been over sixteen years since Logan left Philadelphia. Dan Callahan doesn’t even recognize him as a former employee. Logan infiltrates the company as a temp and replaces one of the VP’s secretaries out on maternity leave. Of course the VP is Doriana Callahan. Doriana is irritated when her father hires a temp to fill in as her assistant, but it’s nothing compared to the shock when she discovers it's Logan, the father of her fifteen-year-old son. Logan had left suddenly years earlier without warning or explanation. She hadn’t even known how to contact him to tell him about his son. But now he’s back in her life. Logan ’s Redemption is riveting. Doriana is a very likable person. Logan is a strong hero, a warrior. You really want to see things work out for them and their son. This is not only a sizzling romance but also a great suspense. Cara Marsi has written in a strong, vibrant secondary cast of characters which give the story flavor and depth. Ms. Marsi is an excellent author and I’ll definitely look for more of her books. I highly recommend this one!

THE ROMANCE STUDIO
Dan Callahan has hired Logan Tanner to sniff out the sabotage within his construction company. Dan has no inkling that Tanner is the father of his almost sixteen-year old grandson Josh. Daughter Doriana is shocked, to say the least. She was in her teens and madly in love with the motorcycle riding Logan when she discovered her pregnancy. Logan left town before she could tell him, his relationship with his own father in shambles. Doriana's family was not happy, but supported her and Josh completely. But Dorie never revealed the identity of the baby's father. She was afraid her father would track him down and hurt him -- and, just possibly, she was ashamed of his lower class upbringing. Now Dorie is Vice President of Project Development in her father's company. Seeing Logan again rekindles the passion within her, but she fears he will just leave again. So she continues to hide his prior relationship to her. The mystery is thoroughly engrossing and well-plotted. The solution is logical, but not obvious. Doriana and Logan are thoroughly fleshed out characters with understandable reactions. Sexy secretary Candi is fascinatingly complex. Josh is going through a normal teen rebellion, complicating his mother's life. The character I found puzzling was Dorie's father. He was paying Logan to work undercover and find the saboteur, yet he was reluctant to blame anyone. He was supportive of his daughter's single parenthood, yet he overrode her decisions on handling Josh. He seemed to give her little credit for her job efforts, while unconditionally spoiling her playboy brother Marco. I found the ending a little too "happily ever after" for everyone, but I did enjoy this tale of first (and last) love.

Excerpt from, "Children of the Mist"

~CHILDREN OF THE MIST~

On the shingle of the boulder-strewn shore, several small boats bobbed against their moorings. After ensuring his pack was securely fastened around his waist, he climbed into one, and lashed the torch to the prow. He cast off, and took up the paddle. The river bore the craft along at a tremendous rate and it needed all his skill and attention to save the craft from dashing against the rocks. He'd heard about the fabled river of Mimir, but this was not the tranquil stream of his imagination. The walls still reflected a phosphorescent glow. Vidarh noticed several gigantic, human-like statues on the banks as he passed, but had no time to contemplate or admire them. Rounding a bend, he came upon a wall of water ahead, cascading from the roof in a fury of white froth. The torrent boiled and raced. He gritted his teeth as he headed into the maelstrom.
There was no way he could control the boat's frantic motions as it heaved and bucked like an unbroken colt. He threw down the paddle, gripped the sides of the vessel, and sent a desperate message through the ether.
Tamarith, I'm in trouble. Please—send me images of your location, quickly. I need to know what it looks like where you are.
The raging current tossed the boat around with relentless fury. All Vidarh's attention focused on maintaining contact with Tamarith, and even his finely-tuned powers could not prevent the craft from capsizing. Gasping as he hit the icy flood, he struck out with his arms in desperation, and tried to keep the watery demons from pulling him under.
Tamarith!

Into his head came a shimmering picture of mountains and a snowy plain beyond, like the one he had recently crossed. A path before the mouth of a cave wound down the declivity to the plain. He closed his eyes and forced himself to concentrate on the image, while trying to keep his head above the water.
The mountains and the plain solidified in his mind. He saw a group of people gathered at the entrance to the cave, halfway down the craggy slope. Four sturdy ponies stood tethered a short distance away. Vidarh struck a barrage of water with a force that winded him. Myriad rainbow colours flashed before his eyes. For a nanosecond, he sped through a vortex of black nothingness, sucked through the eye of a raging whirlwind. He hit hard ground and rolled over onto his side. A few moments passed before he could catch his breath and scramble to his feet. He stood in embarrassment, aware of the slightly shocked expressions on the faces of the three people gathered before him.
Welcome, Vidarh. Not quite how we were expecting you to arrive.

The young woman, at whose feet he had fallen, was pleasing to look at, even if her expression was one of bemusement. He'd formed a vague picture in his mind and thought she would be attractive, although he had not expected her to be so stunning. Large, dark eyes framed with feathery lashes lit up her delicate features. Thick black hair in a long braid reached almost to her feet, and the close-fitting riding gear she wore emphasised a petite, shapely figure.
Tamarith smiled, an action that made her seem even lovelier, and extended her fingers in the Nifl custom. How did you do that?
