Book Review- 'MY DEVILISH SCOTSMAN' By Jen Holling

After reading MY WICKED HIGHLANDER, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the second book in the MacDonell Bride Series. Once again Jen Holling hits a home run with
MY DEVILISH SCOTSMAN.

Unlike her sisters Gillian MacDonell is not a witch, she's not confident and she's definitely not bold. So why would an Earl want to marry her, especially after being humiliated by her sister Isobel?

Nicholas Lyon, Earl of Kincreag is cold hearted, aloof and he may have killed his first wife. But to keep from being shipped off to France, where she's expected to marry an old man, Gillian is willing to sell her soul to the devil, even if the devil is Lord Kincreag.

At first Nicholas resists the offer of marriage but softens knowing that it is his dearest friend, Alan MacDonnell's dying wish. So using her powers of persuasion, and quite a bit of boldness taught to her by her sisters, Nicholas gives in.

Gillian is hopelessly attracted to her Earl, and doesn't want to settle for a "good match," so she decides to give Nicholas a love philter, but instead of making him amorous, it makes him suspicious.

Nicholas believes she is trying to poison him and the marriage gets off to a rocky start, it becomes even rockier once Gillian arrives at Castle Kincreag.

Strange things start happening and she starts to have visions. But worst of all, she believes someone may be trying to kill her?

Could it be? Would Nicholas kill another wife? Gillian doesn't want to believe it, she knows he is plagued with secrets, but she's glimpsed another side to him, a vulnerable side.

Hadn't she? Or could she be seeing only what she wishes most for? Did she imagine his kindness? Was his concern not real when she'd collapsed with her head pains? Was she imagining it all or was he acting? Trying to catch her off guard? But if it wasn't him, who was it and why? And what are the visions she keeps seeing? All fingers are pointing to Nicholas, even her sisters, who are witches, think him guilty. But is he? Or are there other sources of evil at work? AND when he finds her casting a spell with her sisters, will he protect her like he promised her father or will she face the same fate as her mother?

You'll have to read to find out!

Jen Holling has done it again. With a sweep of her pen she creates such heart-wrenching emotion, and a vivid picture of what Medieval Scotland must have been like. I fell in love with Gillian from the very start, she isn't the bold heroine that we normally see, but she grows into her own women as the book progresses. The attraction and love between the two characters is heartbreakingly warm and you can't help but cheer them on. The beginning hook is so intense that you won't be able to stop reading because of all the unanswered questions swirling through your mind. I had to resist the urge to peek! This story has so many twists and turns, and a few surprises that will keep you turning pages.

Congratulations again Ms. Holling on another wonderful book!
I give this book 5 out of 5 stars! *****

Now I can't wait to read, MY SHADOW WARRIOR, the final book in the MacDonell bride series.

Book Review- Tamed by your Desire by- Jen Holling

Book Review- Brides of The Bloodstone “Tamed by your Desire”
By – Jen Holling

First I’m going to start by saying, I love Jen Holling, her books always provide me with everything I could ever want in a Scottish Historical. With the turn of a page I am transported to the lush Scottish Highlands, back to the magical times of Knights and their Ladies, Warriors and their Woman, a time where honor was based on actions and most were bound to a code. A time of mystery and intrigue, a time I find endlessly fascinating and incredibly drawn too.

I’ve read numerous books by Ms. Holling and she never fails to create sexy, strong willed Highlanders who are not only proud but have huge hearts, men who will never abandon their principles, and will endure anything to keep their people safe. Though far from perfect, these men are selfless, and always strive to do what is right. They will run head long into battle without a second thought. They’re rough, and fearless yet gentle, and loving.

Her Heroines are always a match for her hero’s. The women you find in her books are never meek and whether or not they are afraid, they always speak their minds. They are bold, beautiful, and extremely strong. They guard their hearts the same way the men guard their families. And like all women, they yearn for true love. Ms. Hollings books always allude to a bit of “Magic” and this book is no different.

So I ask you, what more could you ask for in a Romance novel?

Brides of Bloodstone- Tamed by your Desire

Refusing to marry a man she does not love, Fayth Graham is forced to flee her ancestral home. Her freedom is short-lived when she is captured by her most reviled enemy -- Alex Maxwell, who would never forgive her for teasing him mercilessly and then betraying him to her family. Now, as they search for the mystical Bloodstone, she fears he will use her captivity to avenge his savaged pride. But their heated encounters leave them both shaken and Fayth soon suspects that the force that burns between them might, after all, be love....

Fayth and Alex’s love story will keep you turning pages. Can a lifelong hatred keep them apart, or will her abusive brother sell her to the highest bidder? You’ll have to read to find out!

I give this book ***** stars!!!

Spotlight on' author Jen Holling

This week I was supposed to be focusing on Jen Holling. Unfortunately, I was unable to do so. Because of that, I've decided to keep the spotlight on her, and share my reviews of her books.
I came across Jen Holling by accident. One day while I was browsing my local library, a purple Tartan cover caught my eye. It just so happened that the book was in the book sale. I truly had no intention of buying it, but when I pulled it out and read the back, I ended up with it, and two other books from the Macdonell Bride series.

Here is my review, of the first book in the Macdonell Bride Series.
Book Review: My Wicked Highlander

I want to start off by saying this is the first time I’ve read anything by Jen Holling, and I must say I have another new author to add to my FAVORITES! I loved every single minute of, MY WICKED HIGHLANDER. Honestly, it was such a moving story, that I didn’t want it to end.

Jen Holling has a passion for Scotland that shows in her beautiful descriptions. She did a fantastic job of transporting me back.

Isobel MacDonell is a strong, proud and loyal woman. Sir Philip Kilpatrick is a brave, and honorable warrior whose focus is to protect the lady he’s been asked to bring home after twelve long years spent in hiding. Both of these characters have demons, and the fact that Isobel is a WITCH, can’t distinguish the flames burning between them. Only problem is, Isobel is betrothed to another, a powerful Earl who is rumored to have killed his first wife.

Sir Philip finds himself wanting more than her father’s appreciation for being Isobel’s protector, he wants her- especially since he fears for her safety at the hands of a possible murderer.Isobel feels the pull also, but since Philip keeps her at arms length, she doesn’t know what to do. She doesn’t want to deny her father’s dying wish by not marrying Nicholas Lyon, Earl of Kincreag, but can she deny her heart?

Does Sir Philip manage to protect Isobel from the Witch hunts going on in Scotland? And will he turn Isobel over to Earl Kincreag once they return to Lochlaire? You’ll have to read it to find out!

This is an Excellent story that kept me turning pages late into the night. I couldn’t put it down and it called to me whenever I did. I never wanted this story to end. The characters were written so well that I felt I actually new them. The sexual tension between Isobel and Philip sizzled!I experienced so many emotions. I laughed, I cried- I had goose bumps and on more than one occasion a lump in my throat so large I thought I might stop breathing. This book is everything a Romance Reader, especially those with a passion for Scotland could ever want.

Kudos to Jen Holling for a job well done!

I give this book 5 out of 5 stars- *****Now I can’t wait to read, MY DEVILISH SCOTSMAN, the second book in the MacDonell brides series.
