Excerpt - "Love will Bloom" by Eliza Knight
After dressing and touching up her hair, Lillian started her slow descent to the dining room. Although she met her family earlier, she would now be forced to endure hours of conversation with them. It wasn’t a problem for her, she was glad to get to know them, but she feared they would not want to get to know her.
She hoped she would be seated next to her uncle. He seemed to be the most prone to talking among the lot of them, and it had been quite awhile since she'd had a conversation with anyone.
Lillian berated herself for her thoughts. She should want to sit next to them all, she did live with them now, and they were her family. During the internal battle she was having, Lillian barely heard the man at the foot of the stair clear his throat.
She sucked in her breath as she gazed upon him. Her heart skipped a beat, and her hands that had been perfectly dry, now felt slick.
He was a breathtaking sight. His tall, lean body leaned charismatically against the banister at the foot of the stair, with one elbow placed on its top. His other long arm bent at the elbow, with a strong hand placed on his slender hip. Lillian couldn’t help but admire him through her lashes, not wanting to be too forward. Although a lean man, she could see in certain places where his trousers and coat clung, his muscles were well defined. His clothes were of the utmost style, his shirt, pants and jacket smooth and crisp, not a piece out of place.
Flawless.
His thick brown hair came neatly to tie at the nape of his neck. A small lock came undone and lay against his forehead, giving him a wicked look.
Ah, so he is human. Not so flawless.
He stood there for a moment in perfect stance, as if to let her look upon him. She crinkled her brow, and rolled her eyes, thinking him arrogant. He was most assuredly one of the handsomest men she’d ever seen, but there he stood so proud, so sure of himself. He seemed to expect her to look upon him.
“Good evening, my lady. Lord Dominick Wade, at your service,” he said with a sweeping bow as she stopped at the foot of the stairs.
She lifted her arm delicately as she’d been taught and waited for him to take her hand. His fingers gently gripped her hand, as his soft lips grazed her skin. She felt a tingle wind its way up her arm and into her chest.
“Lillian Whitmore,” she said softly, her breath still caught in her chest from the moment he seized her senses with his warm kiss.
“Whitmore?” he asked, looking up sharply, his brow furrowing.
“Yes,” Lillian said, willing the butterflies in her stomach to stop fluttering. She straightened her back, stunned at the man’s seeming incredulity for her name.
“I don’t understand. I know I have been traveling for some time, but I was sure His Grace only had two daughters, and both English. You are American.”
“How perceptive,” Lillian said under her breath.

He kissed her again. He kissed her and reason fled, storming away from Lela on an unreasoning tide. She wrapped one hand around the back of his head, holding a hank of his down-soft Thelonian hair. Her traitorous hand twined in it, giving her a momentary illusion that she had some control over what was happening, but illusion was all it was.

He let his weight down carefully upon her, chest pressing her breasts, hip against hip, legs twined with hers so that she felt points of fire along her entire body. Everywhere he touched her seemed hot, so hot, and his kiss was wanton and demanding. Men had kissed her that way before and she had been repulsed. Caius kissed her that way and she moaned low in the back of her throat and opened her mouth. His erection was heavy and pressed her belly.
At last he raised his face from hers and his lips sought the place near the hollow of her shoulder that made her shudder when he nipped gently and then soothed the bite with his tongue. Unthinking, she let her hand drift to the back of his neck. The other was trapped between their bodies in a position where she might try to push him away, but she knew she wouldn’t.
“Caius, truly, I can’t,” she protested, and missed his smile in the dark. She had used his name—a very telling thing.
“You needn’t,” he said. “Just let me touch you.”
Touch her. It sounded innocent enough…it was anything but innocent. He shifted slightly—so slightly—and touched the tip of her breast with the tip of his tongue. She gasped and her back arched, beyond her control, and he slid an arm behind the small of her back as quickly as thought and lifted her. Lifted her strongly, possessively, and without the slightest protest from her. He took her nipple into his mouth, suckling deeply, and she cried out.
Her breasts ached and throbbed deliciously—a wonderful torment that couldn’t be soothed. Holding her, he let his kisses rain down her body, finding every sensitive spot while she lay helpless in his embrace. Eventually she simply couldn’t restrain herself any longer and pressed into his kisses, panting in distress.
“I don’t even like you,” she said plaintively.
She felt the explosion of his breath against her skin. He was beside himself with mirth, shaking in her arms, laughing so hard that a reluctant grin quirked the corners of her mouth.

More June Reads
Andrea had an awesome post on the books she's read this past month. I'd thought I'd add mine.
The fifth book, Lover Unbound, is Vishous' story. (My favorite so far)
The sixth book, Lover Enshrined, is Phury's story. This is the book I'm currently reading and it's proving to be as satifsying as all of the others in the series.
For whatever reason, I've been on a major J.R. Ward kick. Her Black Dagger Brotherhood series has been occupying all of my reading time lately. I absolutely adore this series and for anyone that hasn't read it and likes vampires, you should really check it out. Her characters are interesting, witty and fun. The interaction between the Brothers is entertaining. I've laughed out loud with this series and cried with it.
The first book, Dark Lover, I read a few months ago, this was Wrath's story.
The second book, Lover Eternal, is Rhage's story.
The third book, Lover Awakened, is Zsadist's story.
The fourth book, Lover Revealed, is Butch's story.
The fifth book, Lover Unbound, is Vishous' story. (My favorite so far)

After this book, there's an Insider's Guide to the Brotherhood, that I picked up when I met Ms. Ward at the New Jersey conference.

June's read books ....
I actually read quite a few books in June! These books are not necessarily new releases, just books that caught my interest, and I chose to read for pleasure. The opinions of whether they should be read or not are entirely mine.
