Closer look at DIVINE INTERVENTION by Kristy Bock ...

Excerpt - DIVINE TOUCH

Savannah must have heard him wrong; she could have sworn he said wings. He placed his hand on her arm and the hospital room faded. As her vision adjusted, she found herself in yet another place she didn’t recognize. It appeared to be an unfurnished studio. She wanted to explore the area, but her back felt as if it were on fire. With enough thought to the man beside her to turn away, she ripped off the hospital gown that did little to cover her anyway, and tried unsuccessfully to reach the spot between her shoulder blades that caused her such agony.

“It will be over soon, I promise,” said Gabriel.

“It itches!”

“As far as your changes go, this will be the most unbearable. I apologize for the inconvenience.”

A pain so strong it buckled her knees stemmed her scathing remark. Her teeth clenched and she sucked in her breath hard as the skin from her back ripped and new bones formed. She prayed for the darkness of unconsciousness that held her captive earlier that morning.

A hand stroked her face. She lifted her head to see Gabriel staring back at her. “It hurts.”

“It will be over in just a moment. I will make it up to you, I promise,” he said. She noted a sincerity that surprised her. He’d been standoffish until that moment. Another wave of pain ravaged her back and pushed the thought aside.

“That credit card better be platinum, buddy,” she muttered as she panted through the pain.

“Make it through the first week, and I’ll take you on a world–wide shopping trip. You’ll buy the best in Venice, in Paris, in New York City, in Los Angeles, and that’s just before lunch.” Gabriel said.

“You had better not be looking at my ass.”

“As perfect as your derriere is, it is not at all what I’m concerned about,” he replied. She thought she heard a hint of amusement. Despite the pain, she smiled at him calling her rear end perfect.

The sensation that had tormented her back ebbed, leaving a dull ache in its place. Savannah snatched the hospital gown and covered her front as she sat up. She wrapped it around her body as best she could. After she closed her eyes, she counted to ten, and looked over her shoulder. Folded black wings protruded from the area between her shoulders. She reached over, using her other arm to extend her reach and felt the outer edges of the dark feathers.

“I have wings,” she stated in amazement.

“Spirits aren’t bound by gravity, now, neither are you,” Gabriel said.

“How do they move?”

“The same way you move your arm, your leg, your finger. You just move them. They are limbs, appendages, extensions of your body,”

His answer irked her. She would like to see him automatically have the knowledge to use two large wings that appeared out of nowhere on her back. Questions streamed through her mind. How would she find shirts that could be worn over the wings? Could she lie on her back? Would she shed? She didn’t want to find feathers everywhere she went. Why were they black, weren’t wings white, like angel wings? Could they carry her weight and more? If so, how much more?

“The next step will give you telepathic abilities. I will answer all of your questions in due time. For now, we need to focus on your transformation,” Gabriel said.

Her transformation?

“What?” she demanded.

“Your transformation from human mortal to a Soul Reaper, more specifically.” He explained.

“Of course, why wouldn’t Death’s assistant be known as a Soul Reaper? He’s the Grim Reaper after all,” she said, mildly amused at the term. “Soul Reaper is the best you could come up with? I mean, honestly, you get Angel of Death, Death, Grim Reaper, Collector of Souls. I get Soul Reaper. “

“Would you prefer a different title?” he asked. “This is the first trek I’ve made to the mortal realm in thousands of years. So, you will be the one they refer to as the Grim Reaper, the Angel of Death, and Collector of Souls.”

“Oh, well then, I find Angel of Death an acceptable title,” she said. “So, I’ll have wings and the ability to read minds. Do I have to do anything disgusting, like drink blood?” Her nose crinkled at the thought.

“You are a reaper, not a vampire. Please get your lore straight. Though there are similarities. You will not age beyond this point. You are immune from sickness and disease. Your strength will be superior to vampires, but you won’t be able to turn anyone into a reaper by biting them. Also, you are still technically mortal. A wound to a vital organ, extensive blood loss, broken spine or neck, things like that can still kill you.”

Savannah tried to pay attention to everything he told her, but couldn’t get past his insinuation that vampires were real. After a moment the rest of his words sunk in.

“What happens when I die?” she asked, genuinely curious.

“When you die, you’ll be sent back down to the waiting room, as you were before. Each time you die, you will be revived as a mortal and have to go through the transformation all over again.”

She refused to ever go through the wing thing again.

"The Much Awaited Book Two of The Divine One Series"

Savannah Delseno is dead! It was bad enough dying, but to be murdered by your own fiancé, on your wedding day...Not Fun! When she is offered a job as Death's assistant, at first she is reluctant. But the idea of maybe making her ex- fiancé suffer, seals the deal! One thing Death, aka Gabriel, forgot to mention was the transformation from human mortal to soul reaper. Oh, and that little thing of a family curse and one of the scariest demons ever coming after her!! Let the fun begin!!

Gabriel, aka Death, admired Savannah's spunk from the moment he saw her. Knowing she would be a good canidate for the job, he agrees with his ex-assistant, Esmeralda that Savannah would make a good replacement. Yeah sure she is beautiful, but they would strictly have a professional relationship and that was all. He had resigned himself to being alone long ago; having loved deeply once, only to lose her. With his ex-assistant and soon to be sister in law trying to play matchmaker, Gabriel has his hands full trying to keep the very alluring Savannah at arm's length. When a deadly demon comes looking for Savannah, Gabriel will do whatever it takes to keep Savannah; even a marriage in name only!

With Death mourning a lost love, Savannah wanting to kill her old love, an ex-assistant hell bent on a love match, and throw in a ancient demon...Oh yeah, things are about to get real interesting!

I loved Savannah!! She is a character that you can relate too. She says what we wish we could! Her spunk, attitude, wit, and one liners just cracked me up! She is going onto my favorite heroines list! I looked forward to the interactions between Gabriel and Savannah, magic together!! She brings out the fun in Gabe and I just enjoyed the two together very much! When they come together it is hot and steamy!! This couple had my attention from their first wordplay down to the last sentence in the story. I have to say I didnt expect the villian. Ms. Bock did an excellent job of building a very detailed world of gods, goddesses, demons and one mouthy, smart and just downright fun female lead!! Well done, and I cannot wait to see whose story will be told next!!!

What’s worse, finding yourself in Death’s waiting room in your wedding dress… or finding out that someone wants to steal your soul?

Savannah Delseno takes the position as Death’s assistant, because, really, what other choice did she have? She was dead. It didn’t hurt that Gabriel, the one known as Death, intrigued her in a way that she’d never experienced before in her former life.

Gabriel had no intention of getting close to his alluring new assistant. He would not be manipulated by his former assistant, about to become his sister-in-law, or any of the six meddlesome Divine Ones that seemed intent on interfering in his life.

Can Savannah and Gabriel withstand a crazed soul hunter, an ancient curse, and everyone’s best intentions to find a love that can withstand death itself?

~DIVINE TOUCH

“I could devour every inch of your skin and you would beg me for more. It most certainly would not suck.” Though he didn't touch her, her body tingled as if he had. She stared at him dumbfounded while her brain tried to prepare some type of appropriate response.

As she gaped at him she realized he was changing. His jaw extended conforming to an altogether new shape. The next thing she noticed were his eyes, they went from blue to black as the bone structure in his face changed, narrowing causing his eyes to set apart. His black hair spread the length of his entire body. It took every bit of control Kate possessed to not reach out and touch him. His spine erupted, lengthening his torso as he dropped to his knees. Kate wondered for a brief moment if it hurt. His arms and legs shortened turning into what she would expect a wolf's legs to look like. Thought it only took a short period of time, his transformation captivated her.

Unable to stop herself she reached out to touch him. The wolf turned its head toward her bearing its teeth but emitting no sound. Kate's hand stilled at the vision of its teeth but her curiosity was stronger than her sense of self preservation. Her fingers connected with black fur that was soft. She half expected it to be course, but it felt like silk. What started as curiosity turned into pleasure. She stroked the length of the wolf's fur from the base of its neck to the hindquarters. She pressed her face against the fur, inhaling its scent. The feel of his fur against her skin sent a ripple of heat through her body.

She jerked her thoughts from a place she was certain they did not belong. She backed away from the wolf Zane had become. Her breath caught at the sight of his eyes. Though her mind had turned him from werewolf to pure wolf, the sight of Zane in those black eyes made her all too aware of the man within the beast. He flashed his teeth again in what could only be described as a smirk and bounded away.

Kate sank to the ground bringing her knees up to her chest with her arms wrapped around them. She exhaled slowly emptying her lungs before taking in a shuddered breath.

“You know you've been celibate too long when a wolf turns you on.” She said aloud. The desire she felt as she stroked the soft fur encasing that body left her throbbing with want. She knew the moment she saw him again in male form she'd not be able to look him in the eye.

Kate is thrilled when werewolf bones are delivered to her rather than to her ex-husband. She is stunned when the bones disappear, to be replaced by an irresistible naked man. When she gets wrapped up in a tangle that leads her to find she is the child of a goddess… Well, then someone better bring in the chocolate and her best friend.

Zane has been trapped in a void for five hundred years, until his bones are reunited on a sterile table by a woman who looks like the one who betrayed him so many years ago. Even carrying the face from his past, Zane finds himself drawn to the clever witch in a way that he has never felt before in all his many years of roaming the earth as a werewolf.

Brought together by the whims of a god and having to figure out the rules as they go, Zane and Kate must pass a trial of fire… that is, if they can keep from burning with the passion that ignites every time they touch.

A fun read, full of fast-paced dialogue and clever repartee between the cast of zany characters, Divine Touch was a true pleasure to read. From the whimsical characters that literally leapt off the page to the building sexual tension between Zane and Kate, this story was a blast to read and I will look for more of this author’s work.

I'm not a huge paranormal fan but read this book based off a friend's recommendation. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself not only enjoying the book but found I couldn't put it down. The author adds the right degree of humor and keeps the story moving along. I highly recommend Divine Touch to anyone looking for an entertaining read.

Let's get up close and personal with Debut Author Kristy Denice Brock!

In the summer months of 1979…. Hahaha yeah so not getting into all that! I’m defined by the hats I wear. At the moment I’m wearing my promotion hat, it’s ill-fitting and like a pair of good shoes, it needs broken in. At any given moment I can have my mom hat on… I’m the sole parent of four insane children with marginal self-control ability, and the owner of one rat named Templeton, two fish named Thing one and Thing two, another fish named Red Fish (even though he’s silver) and Blue Fish… he’s actually blue! We seem to collect rodents in this house, I’m not sure why… we had a Ralph S. Mouse, but sadly he went in search of that big cheese in the sky. Stuart Little ate through his cage and joined his woodland friends in the fields of North Carolina!

When I turned fourteen my parents bought me a typewriter for my birthday. It was the coolest thing I ever owned. It had correctional tape!!!! No white out needed! I carried that thing with me for as long as I possibly could and had many great adventures that involved dashing heroes and quick-witted females who managed to find themselves in predicaments that only the hero could save them from. I also wrote ridiculously bad poetry chalk full of teen angst and sweeping parental unit sucker punches.

Fast forward… um… well a whole lotta years because I decided to see if I was any better at raising kids than I was at poetry (the jury is still out). Then I entered a contest that eharlequin had a few years ago. They sent me the absolute neatest airmail letter that said something like ‘You didn’t win, but keep writing and send me something.’ I didn’t know at the time that the letter probably should have been immediately responded with some wonderful story I concocted. I just thought it was cool to get an airmail! I set out to write a story for harlequin, and I did, but the rejected me… twice lol. Then I decided to actually take some time to learn how to write. Oh my… I had no idea what I was getting into. Lions, Tigers and bears have nothing on grammar, showing, telling and comma placement!!

I wrote Divine Touch after years of role-playing from video games online. I took the concepts I learned there (which is why… if you’ve read the book you’ll see that I use far more dialogue than is considered the norm because I like verbal interactions!) and created a cast of characters that I knew would have Divine stories to tell. I hope you enjoy the cast of Divine Touch as much as I do.

I’m currently working on a book about angels and demons. More specifically the daughter of an archangel and a demon with poison tipped fingernails! I can’t wait to see where that story takes me, but nothing will ever replace the pleasure I felt the day Divine Touch came alive.
