THE TUDOR REVIVAL

By Sky Purington

Is it true love... or is this dark need part of the Tudor's Revival?

A man stuck between worlds.

Ghost hunter and dare-devil, Seth, is flung into the afterlife. His one draw to reality? Alana. He died. She lived. But he can't let go. There is something more than friendship between them and he can't say goodbye.

A woman drawn to the past.

The last thing Alana expects to encounter when she inherits her grandmom's Tudor Revival is the spirit of her deceased best friend and crush, Seth. But everything is not what it appears to be. He is determined to live again. When his investigative team, The Worldwide Paranormal Society shows up at her door, Alana soon learns that she's in for a wild ride.

Calum's curse visits one more house. Things get hotter and more paranormal than ever before. Love, as always, struggles to overcome the odds. Time is limited though and the creature set to destroy Seth and Alana is the most cunning of all.

Will Alana and Seth face mankind's worst fear and survive?
Find out in The Tudor Revival.

The Tudor Revival is the third book in my Calum’s Curse Trilogy. Book One, The Victorian Lure (Calum's Curse: Ardetha Vampyre) and Book Two, The Georgian Embrace (Calum's Curse: Acerbus Lycan) are available now.

EXCERPT:

Seth crossed his arms over his chest. “Are you mad at me about something?”

Alana studied his face for a moment before she said, “I suppose I am.”

“What?”

“Are you serious?”

He nodded. “Obviously.”

Crossing her arms over her chest, she said, “You died then you haunted me.” She nodded toward the house. “Then you brought all this with you.”

“Ah.” She still maintained that feistiness he enjoyed. Seth grinned. “Yeah, sorry about all that.”

Alana frowned. “You’re not sorry in the least.”

“Nope.”

“Then why say that you are?”

“I don’t know. To see you get fired up?”

She inhaled deeply through her nostrils. “I would’ve thought that death would’ve had more of an effect on you, Seth.” Alana pushed away from the rock and walked toward the house.

“What do you mean by that?” He walked after her. “And wouldn’t you rather death didn’t change me?”

Alana stopped so quickly that he nearly walked into her. Face red with anger she pointed a finger at his chest and said, “You needed some adjustments!”

Something about the fire in her eyes and the liquid heat of her tone set off his anger as well. Hell yeah, he needed some adjustments and knew right where to start. Before she knew what hit her, Seth pulled her into his arms.

And made his first adjustment.

Excerpt from THE VICTORIAN LURE ...

Welcome back! Time to share an excerpt from The Victorian’s Lure. Why not my favorite scene? That first moment  when Dakota starts to ‘warm’ toward Leathan. This scene is not only domestic but gives you a taste of how she sees him as all things paranormal and also as a flesh and blood… Scotsman!

EXCERPT…

Leathan polished off the last bite of his eggs and pushed his plate away. “Let me out of here. I’ll get the dishes started.”

Dakota saw her escape. “Me too, I’ll help.”

Everyone moved, and they slid out. Leathan grabbed the pans while she opened the dishwasher. For a few minutes they worked together in perfect harmony while the others chatted at the table. She’d never had a live in boyfriend and surely had never spent enough time in the kitchen to share such a domestic scene with a man. The snow fell in heavy, penny-sized flakes beyond the window above the sink. An apple cinnamon scented candle flickered invitingly on the sill.

“Almost feels like we should have some Christmas music playing in the background, huh?” Leathan rinsed off a pan and put it in the washer.

Smiling, she put some plates in next to his pan. “I wouldn’t think folks like you celebrated Christmas.”

“Folks like me?” he said, amused. “I suppose you think we should only recognize Halloween.”

Dakota glanced at him, relieved to see a glint of humor in his eyes. “I’m sorry, I can’t picture you decorating a
Christmas tree and singing carols. I suppose that was narrow-minded of me.”

“Not at all.” He flashed his straight white teeth. “I definitely do not sing Christmas Carols. As for the tree, sure, why not?”

A small, unexpected thrill shot through her. It had almost felt like he was saying he’d be more than willing to decorate a tree alongside her. But of course, that hadn’t been what he said. He’d merely expressed he wasn’t above decorating a tree with anyone. Where was her mind going? She didn’t even decorate Christmas trees! At least she hadn’t in a very long time. Sell the idea of vampires, werewolves, shape-shifters, creatures of the night, that’s what she did.

Nothing else.

Dakota kept washing dishware while he cleared the plates and silverware off the table. She rinsed a clump of silverware and leaned over at the exact moment he did. They tried to shove silverware into the same slot and their hands brushed.

“Sorry,” he said and shoved his bunch into the next slot.

With a shrug, she wedged the silverware into its holder and got busy cleaning the sink, all the while feeling incredibly hot. Had someone turned up the heat? Out of the corner of her eye she watched him return to the coffee maker and refill his mug. Sweatpants made the firm globes of his backside stand out in a way jeans never could. Was he wearing underwear? She went to swallow, choked instead. Coughing and sputtering, she held a hand over her mouth.

Turning, coffee mug in hand, Leathan arched one brow at her. “You okay?”

Nodding, Dakota continued to cough, convinced she must be turning thirteen shades of red. She grabbed a cup from the cupboard, filled it with water and gulped. At last, the tickle in her throat passed. Thankfully, no one made a big deal out of it but continued chatting. The last dish in, she filled the soap dispenser, shut the washer and turned it on.

“You like coffee?”

Leathan had approached so quietly she jumped but not before a nervous hiccup escaped. She covered her mouth with her palm, eyes round.

“Excuse me!” she mumbled into her hand.

His lips flattened in an obvious attempt not to laugh. “No problem. Maybe an anti-acid would be better?”

Dakota uncovered her mouth, bit the corner of her lip and hid a smile. So he did have a sense of humor after all. “I do like coffee…even better than anti-acids.”

Standing within inches, the smile he bestowed made her grasp the counter behind her. If she didn’t know better, she’d swear he must be the poster boy for the Scottish Highlands. Her mind drifted once more to the sight of his backside. Dakota couldn’t help but wonder if he’d ever worn a kilt. Did they even wear those there anymore? Probably not. As if she was into guys wearing skirts anyway…please.

“Like it light and sweet?” He asked.

“What?”

“Your coffee.”

Of course that’s what he meant. After all, no such thing as a light and sweet kilt! She chuckled.
He cocked his head. “You should laugh more often, Dakota,” he murmured, still standing close.

“I should?”

“Aye, lass.”

The way he said it─brogue soft and full of encouragement─made her find the counter with her other hand. Full support was needed. Lord. Only ten hours ago, no, two, she had found him obnoxious and overbearing.

Now she wasn’t so sure.

“Was I right about the coffee?” he asked.

Coffee? Right, light and sweet. “Yeah, how’d you know?”

His eyes fell to her lips. “Just a feeling.”

“Good feeling,” she said softly. The room faded away. Idle chatter vanished. She liked the sensual cut of his lower lip. The edges curved down a bit, as though he spent too much time frowning. His top lip was carved into strong slopes. She imagined running her tongue between his lips, tracing the smooth edges. Where had that thought come from?

When he leaned across to set his mug on the counter, he came so close she could smell a fresh, soapy spice burn from his skin. Or was that the candle? He was so tall, lips so close. If she only moved forward a fraction, closed the distance, would his lips taste as good as they looked?

Leathan’s eyes rose to hers. She knew as she gazed into their rich depths, he wanted the same. Blood rushed through her limbs, made her lips throb in anticipation. What harm could one little kiss do? Just to see.

I’m back! Thank you so much for joining me.

Today I’ll be sharing reviews. Regrettably, I don’t have any reviews for The Victorian Lure as it only came out on 11/11/11. I’ve had many professional reviews over the years but the most recent are straight out of Amazon and their customer reviews. But you know what? They’re my readers and I love them all. Their reviews are just as if not more important than professional reviews. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them. So why not share the latest?

“An excellent start to a great trilogy... couldn't put it down, and then had to get the next immediately. I buy and read alot of books, but rarely feel strongly enough to write reviews for one, much less all three of a series of books. Yeah, it's that good.”

“This is a really good historical Scottish highland time travel romance. The story of Iain and Arianna is the first book in the trilogy. I just finished reading the second book in the series and I would give it 5 stars also, but I liked Iain and Arianna's story the best so far.”

“I tried this book because it was .99 and the book description was interesting. From the beginning this book takes off and never stops. It has a great story, laced with romance and mystery. I highly enjoyed this book, and immediately purchased the second book in the series without a free sample copy first. Worth the purchase price, and action packed. Great way to kill an afternoon- and not even realize it!”

“Wow... just wow. I almost never write reviews, but all three of the books in this series were excellent. I would advise starting with the first and moving through them in order, as part of the pleasure is being able to follow the main characters. With each one I started, I couldn't put it down until I had finished... looking forward to more from this author!”

“I was unsure when I started this because it was modern day where all the rest aren't, but it proved to be another really great read. Though it has a more modern take the characters kept me glued. I met alot of the old characters through this and still traveled back in time. Definitely reading the last in the series. Will comment if I like it!”

Getting to know Author Sky Purington ...

Hi Everyone!

It’s always so much fun visiting The Write Life. It’s by far one of my most favorite blogs on the net. Thank you so much for having me over.

For those of you unfamiliar with me, I write a cross genre of Paranormal/Fantasy romance. I love to write tales that allow the reader a bit of escapism, whether it’s into the past or into a whole new reality.

*Sky glances around* I noticed, as appropriate here, that quite a few Highlander authors have been visiting. Well, I’m a Highlander author as well.

In fact, I recently re-released my MacLomain Series (one short story, three full novels) on Kindle

(http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=the+maclomain+series) and Nook (http://www.barnesandnoble.com/s/the-maclomain-series?keyword=the+maclomain+series&store=ebook)

If you enjoy time-travel romance and scrumptious men in kilts, this series might be for you. In honor of my Dad, each title is being offered at .99 cents per title for a limited time. All three novels have held top ten time-travel romance for some time. Always my greatest advocate, I think Dad’s helping me from ‘the other side.’

*smiles*

But, my Highlanders are not the reason I’m visiting this week.

This visit I’d like to share my latest, The Victorian Lure, the first novel in my Calum’s Curse trilogy. This book takes you on a hold-on-tight paranormal ride through one of the most haunted houses you’ll ever enter. It’s considered a time-travel as well because this particular house rolls back in time to the very date it was first built. The romance that develops between Leathan (investigator) and the Victorian’s owner, Dakota, is unexpected, intense and pretty darn hot!

Fun facts about The Victorian Lure and this series…

~ Several of the characters from my MacLomain Series make an appearance in The Victorian Lure and throughout the Calum’s Curse Trilogy.

~ The hero in The Victorian Lure is a super-sexy Scotsman. In fact, he was born in the Highlands. *winks*

My FAVORITE fun fact…
~ One of the four paranormal investigators in this book (and trilogy) is our very own ANDREA! (Her character was loosely based but I think I caught Andrea perfectly. She’s one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet.) In fact, Andrea is one of the contributors at a new character blog recently launched called, Paranormal/Syfy Romance- Deep, Dark & Delicious (http://paranormalromancedeepdarkanddelicious.blogspot.com/) . Swing over and say “Hi!”

Are you an author of anything even remotely paranormal or science fiction romance oriented? Let us know and we’ll get your characters scheduled to appear there!

Thanks so much for joining me. I’m looking forward to spending the rest of the week with you. Don’t forget to leave a comment for chance to win a PRINT copy of The Victorian Lure.

One last shameless plug… I’m revving up for a major blog event. Beginning November 25th through December 25th I’m hosting what’s called the What Every Woman Wants Beneath Her Christmas Tree’ blog event. Last year was a smashing success and we’re all looking forward to another festive event where it’s all about us gals and what we REALLY want under our tree this holiday season. Sixteen authors and jewelry vendors will be popping into my blog, A Writer’s Mind over a thirty day period. That means well over 16 giveaways. The grand prize on Christmas Day? A $100 gift certificate to Amazon!!!

With any luck, I’ll get Andrea to join in December 25th’s post with me. *nudge, nudge*. So scribble Nov. 25th down on your calendar and be sure to pop in to join in the festivities. Blog addy is listed below.

Best Always,
Sky

Excerpt from HEART OF VESUVIUS ...*CONTEST*

“You took advantage of me. I hate you,” she seethed.
“Your mind does.” Salvator kept hold of her leg; intense eyes traveled slowly up her thigh.
“But not your body.”

A new fire lit her blood beneath his arrogant, knowing appraisal. Why him? Why now? In all her life, all her long centuries as a vampire, her body had been her own. Now she wasn’t so sure. In fact, as liquid, hot warmth filled her icy veins, her body remembered his enticing touch. No, not enticing but mind-blowing. Surely she had lost her mind altogether to allow such a thing. And allow she had.
She exhaled, recalling how his long muscled body felt pleasantly heavy when it covered hers, dominating in a way she couldn’t exactly label as rape. No, she had wanted it, wanted it desperately at one point, maybe a few points…Maybe the whole time. Her nipples suddenly felt tight, breasts heavy, as though they remembered too. Alex groaned in denial when her whole body seemed to thrum in response to the mere thought of what he’d done to her.

His hand inched up her calf, fingers creative and searching, Italian accent soft and forgiving.
“See, bella, now you remember.”

Salvator remained dripping wet, tall body clad in black, hair sleek against his head, deep set smoky blue eyes delving into hers. Sexy as hell, this vampire. Alex lowered her lashes and offered a small, inviting smile. Eager, lustful eyes glowed hungrily in response. His hand traveled further, she bent her knee, allowed him inch-by-inch further access.
“I do remember,” she murmured, enthralled by his beauty, maleness.
“Si,” he whispered, his long fingers skirting the top of her thigh. “Very good.”
Taking his hand, she entwined her fingers with his, pulled him closer, and made to kiss his hand.

Then aimed true and kicked hard.
Salvator, ancient vampire, dropped to his knees; hand on his crotch, eyes wide. Alex wasted no time and punched him square in the face with all the power of an eight hundred year old vampire. He fell back, landed on his behind, shocked. She flicked a wrist and a long, thin stalactite from overhead fell hundreds of feet, its tip neatly embedding the pant material centimeters from his groin, to the rock beneath.
She stood, smiled and brushed her hands on her dress. “You dishonored me. Don’t do it again.”

The rock between his legs disintegrated to dust, and he sat up, knees bent, and arms casually resting over them. His wet hair dried, a strand flopped over his eye, made him look far too human and desirable. His suddenly crooked grin didn’t help. “Of course not.”

Find out what the critics are saying about Sky Purington's books! *Contest*

What's being said about DARKEST MEMORY
(prequel to HEART OF VESUVIUS)

"Sky Purington gives us a jam-packed vampire tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat! This is one vampire love story that will tug on your heartstrings! It also has enough heat to singe your fingertips as you fly through the pages of this blazing book!"
~Night Owl Reviews

"This is a fun story full of mystery. I spent a lot of time during the first few chapters trying to puzzle out what was happening and what secret Gabriel was hiding. And I was not disappointed. The characters were vivid and believable and reacted to the world around them in appropriate ways...The sex is hot, frantic, and wild, saving admissions of feeling for better times."
~You Gotta Read Reviews

"If you want a story with a good bit of mystery, suspense, heat, and characters you won't forget, then you need to read DARKEST MEMORY."
~Long and Short Reviews

What’s being said about THE MAC’LOMAIN TRILOGY

Short story lead-in to trilogy…“This story is suggestive, and haunting. It is carried by the power of desire, the power of passion, and the power of desperation. There is a richness here that is hard to convey… THE KING’S DRUIDESS will delight not only the faerie fans but those who love all the tales of old.”
~Nancy A. Lindley-Gauthier

“A lover of all things Scottish along with an avid love of anything that is fantasy, Fate’s Monolith just hits my buttons. It's a lovely blend of two times and the trouble that would befall anyone that is taken across the fabric of time. Sky Purington has done a wonderful job bringing this story to life. I found it hard to put down and it made me wish for my own Highland Laird to come and sweep me off my feet and into a time where I could be loved for who I am. I hope you take the time to get lost in FATE’S MONOLITH this summer just as I did.”
~Night Owl Reviews

“There is so much packed into DESTINY’S DENIAL the story is gripping. I couldn't put it down until I finished the last page but don't take my word for it, you really need to read these books. If you have the slightest interest in time travel, Scotland or magic you will be pulled into this story hook, line and sinker.”
~Simply Romance Reviews

“SYLVAN MIST… “This final story in Purington's Mac'Lomain trilogy is an enchanting story of time hopping. Closely connected to the previous stories, the action is intense and the finish is a fine conclusion to the series.”
~Romantic Times Reviews

Getting to KNOW Author Sky Purington! *CONTEST*

Happy New Year! It’s great to be back with the Chicks of Characterization again. Every visit to this blog is an absolute blast!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with my work, I write a cross genre of paranormal/fantasy romance heavily influenced by history. From Irish Druids to Scottish Highlanders many of my novels portray my love of all things Celtic. The past year or so I’ve mixed it up by traveling to medieval England and ancient Italy with my dashing vampires. Make no mistake, in each and every tale told, you’ll travel back to another time and revisit the romanticism history holds at its heart.

This week, I’m celebrating my eighth publication, Heart of Vesuvius (Sequel to Darkest Memory). Must say, I really enjoyed writing this tale. While it will definitely appeal to Vampire fans, it has the added bonus of enticing those interested in numerology, time-travel, reincarnation and Italian history (Including Gladiators!) I’d love to answer any questions you may have so join in the fun and comment away!

Best Regards Always,
~Sky

Excerpt from "Sylvan Mist" by Sky Purington ...

The fast-fading moonlight poured over her small form. Coira dropped the fur cloak to her feet, leaving only the pale gray of her wool gown and plaid wrap. She removed the wrap. It fell, a dull shadow against the pool of fur at her ankles.

He spoke within her mind. “Coira, what are you doing?”

Coira didn’t respond but turned to face him, the fabric shuffling and twisting in the snow. She stood a distance away, but he could see the steel and determination in her gaze. He could also see the flagon of whisky clutched loosely in her hand.

He went to step forward but she shook her head. “I needed time alone. Is that too much to ask?”

William watched her newfound magic ignite, glow around her─a silver haze the color of mist and moonlight. He didn’t move but waited. “’Tis not so much to ask for, if we were not at war.”

“We are not at war, William! Are we?” Her gaze shifted, covered the sky, the land, and his face in one sweep.

Damn Ferchar for giving her that whisky. What had he hoped to accomplish? William held his ground. His words were as wrought with double meaning as hers. “We are not at war, lass. Not quite yet.”

She sipped again from the whisky. “Go to hell. Leave me be.”

But she didn’t turn away.

William decided upon logic. “You’re nearly bluttered, Coira.”

“And what of it?” She took another sip of the whisky and wiped her mouth with her sleeve, making a wide swipe with her arm. “Do I not deserve to be after all of this? After you!”

He moved with a lightning speed born of magic until he stood in front her. “You deserve a hundred flagons of whisky, if ’tis your desire after all of this, but not now.”

Head tilted back, she narrowed her eyes at him. “But now is now, is it not, William? Now is a mere day before we might die. Before war. Why do you push me away? No. Don’t answer that; you’ve your reasons, I’m sure. Perhaps you don’t want to become more attached to me before I die. Or you die!”

No more. William stopped the endless stream of words with his mouth. He pushed hard against her lips, hoping she would fight him so that he could let her know she had no choice. That he had no choice. But she didn’t. Her hands came up, encased his face, and sweetly deepened the exchange.

He’d been strong until this point. Well in control of his emotions. The urgency of her soft lips snapped his determination in half, made a mockery of his good intentions. He’d endured the horrible need and want night after night as she had, but knew Adlin was right. His final decision─if it came to it─must be for his clan, not her.

Her small hands found their way beneath his cloak, up under his tunic and stroked each muscle. She whispered, urged, pleaded. Her body quivered against his. Sharply reminded him of how she shook upon release, completion. What if she died? What if he did? William needed to feel her sleek heat once more. Groaning, he pulled Coira closer, lifted her, and walked forward until her back pressed against the flat surface of the boulder.
